Q&A: The Pauses Discuss Touring, Upcoming Record

By: Lindsy Carrasquillo

The last time we spoke to The Pauses’ singer Tierney Tough, the band was getting ready to play in Gainesville as part of their tour opening up for Cindy Wilson of the B-52’s. This time, the band is returning to town to play Fest 16 on Friday, October 27 at Loosey’s from 5:30 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. We caught up with Tierney to talk about touring, Fest and their next record.

When we last spoke, you were getting ready to tour with Cindy Wilson of the B-52’s. What was that experience like?

Wonderful. Cindy and her band are some of the sweetest, most down-to-earth people. It was otherworldly getting to hear her sing each night.

You recently finished up a fall tour on the east coast. What was your favorite show from that tour?

We played a small bar called Galaxy Hut in D.C. with The Rememberables (who are also playing Fest) and Devin from Faraquet’s new band, Penguin. It was a really good bill on a Monday night, full of people, and (I think) we played well. Someone gave me a fife that they made!

For local bands wanting to tour, what are some things they must know or do before hitting the road?

Well, I am lucky to have had some promoter experience, which has really helped us with booking. The two biggest things I can think of are to trade shows with nice bands that do well in their respective cities, and don’t be afraid to ask venues about how payment works.

What’s your favorite part of playing festivals like Fest?

On top of it being in one of my favorite cities on the planet, I really love the community vibe of Fest. You run into so many great people from all over the place everywhere you go.

Being from Orlando, what are some local bands that people should listen to?
Wet Nurse are great, and I’m really looking forward to the new Expert Timing record.

Is there anything you can tell us about your upcoming second album?

Our record will be out in February, and we’re really happy with it. We worked with J. Robbins again, and we recommend everyone record with him at least once in their lifetime.

Are there any future plans you can tell us about?

We’ll be touring the country in the winter, so please send us all of the Smash Mouth mashups and isolated vocal tracks that you can find to keep us entertained.

Is there anything else you’d like to share?

Unfortunately, records cost a lot of money to make, so we’re launching an Indiegogo campaign shortly at www.thepauses.com to help fund it, which will include some pretty good perks. Stay tuned.
