[Song Review] “Automatic Doors” by DonKng

By: Daniel Villamil

Off of their upcoming debut album which is due to be released in May, the single “Automatic Doors”, is a new and different take from their previous material. Released in the fall of 2016, their EP “Daydreams” had a nice Strokes vibe. However, the single draws heavily from influences such as Black Flag with its distressed vocals and minor 2nd chords in the verses that create a lot of dissonance. This in turn really drives up tension for the listener which is resolved after the verse with a little bluesy minor pentatonic riff that is also the intro to the song.

I imagine it being an amazing experience to hear it live because I definitely daydreamed about song being played live while I was listening to it. It would be a great opener for a show. “Automatic Doors” is just one of the songs that makes you want to move and dance and it has me hungry and hyped for their record.
